Chamara Kapugedera will aim to resurrect his career as he spearheads Sri Lanka's campaign in the Hong Kong Sixes at the Kowloon Cricket Club this weekend.

Kapugedera, 25, was overlooked for the recent ICC World Twenty20 held in Sri Lanka, despite having an impressive record in the domestic circuit.

Sri Lanka's dismal performance in the final against West Indies after going in as favourites to win the title has forced the selectors to revamp the Twenty20 squad.

Chief selector Ashantha de Mel wants to build a seperate T20 side and pack the side with young guns who can clear the boundary taking a cue from the champions West Indies.

A powerful hitter of the ball, Kapugedera was once regarded as a promising batsman having represented Sri lanka in eight Tests and 92 one-day internationals as well as 21 T20 matches.

But he hasn't quite lived up to his potential and will be hoping a good tournament helps him get back into the spotlight with Sri Lanka hosting New Zealand in a Test and one-day series soon in addition to a one-off T20 clash.

Sri Lanka, who won the 2007 tournament, when they defeated the Shane Warne-led All Stars, will be led by Jehan Mubarak and will also include promising youngsters Chamith Kulasekara, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Sachith Pathirana and Ramith Rambukwella.

Sri Lanka are pooled with sub-continent rivals India and Pakistan as well as the Netherlands in the preliminary round.
