Manchester United have one Crewe star, Nick Powell. The next Paul Scholes.

Now another Crewe star is on the trail to the Premier League – 18-year old Max Clayton.

The next Michael Owen.

Unless, of course, Arsenal get him first.

Arsenal may have plotted the great escape against Reading with a 7-5 comeback win.

However, that scoreline only underlines the Gunners’ weaknesses.

Which is why the reports that Max Clayton could be a Wenger target will warm the hearts of Gunners’ fans.

UK’s The Metro paper linked the 18-year-old Clayton with Arsenal, apart from Manchester United and Liverpool.

Clayton was watched in games against Portsmouth and then Walsall earlier this month, and Wenger was handed promising reports on the striker, who has been compared to ex-England star Michael Owen.

Gunners’s scouts presence at matches striker Clayton has played has raised speculation that a potential deal with Crewe has already been secured.

Clayton has 48 senior appearances for Crewe and has netted four goals this season. The under-19 international is an out and out centre-forward who can play as a winger as well.[video]
